I was planning on getting a DSLR and I want a good camera that takes great pictures but is also a good entry level camera. Also, I wanted a Canon that was not painfully expensive. I have been in the canon family now and I have made a decision to move to Nikon. I went from an Xsi to a 50D and I am figuring out which Nikon body to get. Should I just get a entry level like the new D3100 that has came out. Or maybe something like the D90. I was thinking about the D300 but that is all the money I have and I would rather spend it on glass. I mainly shoot portraits and weddings. And video on the camera is just something I would play around with. So I would like to hear on what bodies you recommend and some lenses as well. Since I am new to the Nikon family. And maybe some input on what I should know about Nikon.

There is also the rumored D7000 to replace the D90 so my options are endless at this point.
Honestly the reason for switching is the experience I have with a Nikon. I have been a fan of the Nikkor line and the lenses I want from it is far more cheaper then the ones I want for canon. Also shooting with a nikon the iso performance much more smoother then and a canon which is a must for me being that I mainly shoot indoors. Another plus for me is flash control I find it easier use a flash on a nikon rather then canon.

I’m into photography and I have a Sony point and shoot at the moment so it’ll be my first DSLR. What I’m mainly wondering is whether I’m going to regret buying the XS in a year or two because it’s too "entry-level." Should I buy an XSi instead or even a more expensive camera?

What would be a better entry level SLR? I know The XSi has more MP but I doubt that this will make much of a difference because I don’t plan on cropping much or blowing up photos. I’ve heard that both cameras have about the same amount of noise, except the XSi has spot metering. What’s spot metering, is it worth it, and would I just be better off getting the XS and a new lens? Does continuous shooting in raw matter if you’re seasoned with P&S but new to DSLR?

I’m looking for an "entry level" SLR, but one that I wont grow out of in the near future. I shoot almost all types of subjects, so versatility is a big factor. Lens choice is not as important. What do you recommend, especially if you have used one of these cameras in the past? Thanks!

So I have a "point&shoot" Powershot camera, and I’ve started to get extremely frustrated with the lack of settings/options/general control over how the picture is going to turn out. I’ve been looking at all sorts of entry level DSLRs, but I’m worried I might grow out of something that’s entry level, and just need a new camera in a few years. Should I look at some of the "prosumer" cameras? Or just go with a good entry level, like the Canon XSi or Nikon D40 or D60? Most consumers buying entry level DSLRs don’t really know how to do anything but point and shoot, but as I know a fair amount about cameras, I’m not sure if entry level is what I need. Also, I’m trying not to spend too much money, I’m mainly looking for something sub-00. Thanks!
