What camera lens should I buy?

I have an entry level DSLR, Nikon d3000, and I am looking for a new lens. One that is good for portraits. From your experience which lens would you recommend? Please note that I am on a budget, so nothing to expensive.
I already have a 18-55mm lens…

Nikon D3100 or Nikon D5100?

I’m looking for an entry level DSLR for pretty much every thing, portraits, action, landscapes, nature. I like the price and size of the D3100, as I have small hands, but I love the flip out LCD screen of the D5100 and don’t think I’m able to give it up. The D5100 is also a bit larger then the D3100 and I don’t know if I will be as comfortable with it. I think it may be a little heavy to lug around everywhere. But, again, I almost feel like I need that flip out LCD screen because I love shooting from weird perspectives. Should I pay more for the screen and a the bigger/heavier size? Is it worth it?

What do you guys think?

the thing i dont like about the d5000 is the screen pops out vertically not horizontally, which is a deal breaker for me

Should my first DSLR be the D3100 or D90?

I had my mind set on the D3100 but my friend is really against that as he said that it is a really super entry level camera and is not going to do any good in the long run. He asked me to buy a D90 instead. He uses that and I always use his if I had the chance. I really like the D90 and I know it’s really good so now I’m really stuck between these two models.

I know what is ISO, shutter speed and other terms and I just find the D3100 is easier to use as most of the stuff you need to adjust are not embedded in the menu unlike other cameras. I love taking photographs of landscapes, animals, portraits and macro shots.

Should I get the D3100 or D90 as my first DSLR?

Best entry-level DSLR?

I am looking for an entry level DSLR camera. Preferably not over 0 dollars. I take a lot of landscape photos (so good-quality photos) but I also do portraits and some sport stuff. I would like to have video on it and image stabilization is practically a must. I have a more advanced point and shoot (Canon SX200 IS), and can use manual settings but I like using easy settings sometimes too. Any recommendations?
P.S. the cheaper the better.
Also I would like a camera that is compatible with other brand lenses.

Which DSLR camera lenses should i buy?

I’m looking to buy a DSLR, but i have no idea what lenses i need. they all come with an 18-55, some also come with a 55-200, which i believe has a decent zoom. I like a good zoom, but at the same time i’m not good spend stupid money on a massive telephoto lense just for the hell of it.

if seeing what kind of stuff i shoot would help, check out the following links:

basically i’ll be shooting more of the same, with maybe a little more of an emphasis on modelling and portraits.

There’s also a possibility that i will, at some point, get into wedding photography – but i have the impression i’m going to need a lot more equipment than an entry level DSLR and an 18-55mm lense for that…

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated =D

I’ve looked at reviews from the Canon T2i and compared it with the Nikon D3100 that just came out. I’m not sure which one to choose though.

I want a DSLR that I’ll be able to still be using for at Least the next 2-3 years that won’t be completely outdated in that time. I want to take alot of photos with this DSLR and build my photography portfolio to apply to some colleges. Price range is 0-0 any other entry level DSLR’s you might suggest please post.

And another thing, Photo quality isn’t really noticable between 14.2 megapixels and 18 megapixels right?

I read that it only matters with megapixels if you plan to print posters of certain sizes. Please clarify about megapixels.

& Please give me advice in what I need to know about buying a DSLR and what other equipment I will most likely need as this is my First dslr. I know so far to keep my lens clean and scratch free a uv filter is good to have please tell me what kind and which is the best uv filter and what lenses are better for portrait and fashion photography. I know 85mm is good for portraits of people. and my main focus is photographing people.

Thanks
Also let me clarify, with my portfolio I’d like to submit to several places to do internships so I need to have a good some what proffessional portfolio .That’s why I’m looking into dslr’s and I am also a photo editor/photo retoucher and have taken classes for it so it’s nice to have good quality pictures to edit. It’s not just for school though, but personal projects as well.
I’ll be shooting studio, outdoors and anywhere inddors. No real specific locations for all my photos, it’s based on the theme of the photograph so I can’t really say.

I am new to photography and will be taking courses on it soon. I have been researching dslr’s mainly the Nikon d5000, Nikon d7000, Canon Rebel T1i and Canon 60d. My goal is to buy a dslr that I can start out with (hopefully make a little money after I learn) as well as have for a while to make a career out of. I would love to have the Nikon d300 or a higher model but can’t afford those at the moment. What is a good camera I can use for portraits, kids, and after experience…weddings to start out with but can give photos a professional look? I’m not at all interested in starting with a film camera so please don’t give advice or recommendations on those. Also can you plz tell me which groups the cameras listed above fall into entry level or semi-pro?
The courses I am taking require a digital slr. The school has an introductory to photography class for film cameras and another introductory to photography for digital slrs.

What Nikon Dslr should I get?

I have been in the canon family now and I have made a decision to move to Nikon. I went from an Xsi to a 50D and I am figuring out which Nikon body to get. Should I just get a entry level like the new D3100 that has came out. Or maybe something like the D90. I was thinking about the D300 but that is all the money I have and I would rather spend it on glass. I mainly shoot portraits and weddings. And video on the camera is just something I would play around with. So I would like to hear on what bodies you recommend and some lenses as well. Since I am new to the Nikon family. And maybe some input on what I should know about Nikon.

There is also the rumored D7000 to replace the D90 so my options are endless at this point.
Honestly the reason for switching is the experience I have with a Nikon. I have been a fan of the Nikkor line and the lenses I want from it is far more cheaper then the ones I want for canon. Also shooting with a nikon the iso performance much more smoother then and a canon which is a must for me being that I mainly shoot indoors. Another plus for me is flash control I find it easier use a flash on a nikon rather then canon.
