It is a very efficient way in deciding what camera is right for you, and a way for you to possibly save some money in the process. Photography can be a serious hobby, but cost should always be a consideration, especially for those who are not making any money from it. The basic steps are: 1. Do not borrow money or take a loan out for a camera if you do not have any intention of becoming a professional. Buy ONLY what you can afford. 2. Have a budget and stick to to. 3. Look at the cheapest options, even if there is still a lot of room in your budget. This can save you a lot of money, while still finding something you hare happy with! Canon 350D or Olympus E-500?

I’ve decided it’s finally time I upgraded my regular digital compact to an entry level dslr, after about 4 years of using it – my photography experience isn’t non-existant, though, and I have used DSLRs before so I don’t want to be stuck with a bit of a dead end camera once you get passed the beginners stage of using it.
I’m torn between the canon 350d and olympus e-500. Both cameras look good, but the only thing thats putting me off the e-500 is the high iso having a possible effect on my pictures when shooting in poor lighting…however, the design and large screen is something I prefer to the 350d. Also, I’ve heard that the 350d’s autofocusing is a lot better…I’m really stuck! With all bias-ness aside, can I please have some opinions? Thanks.

Putting liveview in DSLR cameras made it happy and lazy for the schmoes to hold it out at arms length and not look through the "peephole." So now I’d dare to guess 70% of the people use liveview on their DSLR camera. So Olympus with their tip-top marketing and development people came out with the mirrorless DSLR, or EVIL cameras. And so Olympus discontinued their entry level mirrored cameras.

So do you think they were waiting for that all along, feeding the LCD addiction across all brands so that they can take Canonikions entry market; the people who don’t like peeepholes? Or do you think they made survival choices and stumbled on dumb luck?

Hello.. still trying to settle on which camera will be my first dslr. The info I’ve researched and the advice I’ve gotten have pointed me to the nikon 3100. I’ve also heard good things about the olympus e620. One thing that concerns me is this: someone warned me the nikon 3100 does not have image stabilization. How much of a problem is this? does this mean I will be a slave to the tripod (I want to avoid this!!) Does anyone have a better suggestion for a high-quality entry level dslr (my usage is mostly nature/landsacpe photos and some sports)? Thanks so much
