It continues to use the 18MP CMOS sensor seen in the Rebel T2i (550D) but gains a tilt and swivel 1040k dot LCD monitor like the one offered on the more expensive 60D. It also gains the ability to remotely control flashguns using its internal flash, a feature previously only featured on higher-end models. Alongside the camera, Canon is also launching the 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 IS II, a cosmetically revised version of its optically stabilized kit lens. I’m looking for a entry-level dslr camera and Nikon is the only brand i want. Iv narrowed it down to these two which are the only two that fit my budget.. (around 400-600) I realize that the D3100 is a better camera because its newer technology but its 600 bucks just for the camera and i wouldnt have much money to spend on accessories.
.
I would like to get the D3000 and have money to spare on a bag, memory cards etc.
but i am hesitant because i don’t want to look back and regret losing those 4 extra mp and other features the D3100 has. But im only a beginner so would it be best to be familiar with a dslr camera in the first place?
Any ideas, suggestions, inputs on what i should get?
Ps: Im trying to buy this before christmas for a trip im going on, so there isnt much time to save any more money and i really need the bag since the trip is halfway across the world and not just because i want it.
I am going into a entry level college photography class and I need to get a camera. I am a college student so budget is a main issue. Also, thoughts on getting a refurbished camera would be very appreciated. These are the cameras that I have been looking at:
Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)
Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens
Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm IS II Lens and EOS HD Movie Mode

I’m upgrading from my point and shoot, which has been great, but I just need something better. I’m looking for something that will provide quality that’s semi-professional but with simple functions and relatively portable. Basically, an entry-level camera for someone who needs more than what a point and shoot has to offer. I’ve searched relentlessly for high-quality cameras within my price range and I’ve narrowed it down to the Olympus PEN EP1 with a 17mm lens and optical viewfinder for 0 or the Pentax K-x with a 18-55mm lens for 0. Both are 12 mp. From what I’ve researched, the Pentax seems to give slightly better image quality, however the Olympus has a sleek, compact design that is definitely more appealing. The Pentax is a true DSLR while the Olympus is a micro four thirds. Everyone always says that when going for professionalism, the DSLR is better, but it’s bulky size just makes it a bit inconvenient and the Olympus seems to give pretty high quality images as well. I don’t want to sacrifice image quality for camera size, though, so I’m a bit torn.
Which would be better for someone looking for an upgrade from point & shoots who expects high quality images but without the complicated controls of higher end DSLR’s? I still enjoy shooting with manual focus and settings, but I just want something where the settings will be simple and user-friendly, as they were on my point & shoot.
I’ve asked many similar questions like this, but can I have your feedback on these camera options:
1. Canon Rebel XS (0) plus a Canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens (0). 0 total.
2. Nikon D3100 with 18-55mm kit lens and 55-200mm VR zoom lens with bag included (0 package on BestBuy website)
3. Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i 15.1 MP with 18-55mm kit lens (0).
Although choice #2 may seem the most logical, I’ve heard the D3100 is very slow and lags at times. That is a problem I face many Nikon cameras, and I don’t want since it has annoyed me so much in the past.
Just a note, but I’m not just upgrading because I don’t like point and shoot cameras. I have become a great amateur photographer over two years and need a DSLR.
i have 2 cameras already a Canon 450D and a Leica digilux 2
I go travelling allot and i really want a smaller, lighter camera, that would be good for taking pics, of friends and family, maybe a few nice pictures as well,
however i still want it to be able to produce high quality photos . i am currently tossing up between, an entry level DSLR and a really good, more heavyweight point and shoot. of course i would want at last above 7 mp.
In the year 2005 I have had the minolta priced at 1600 and had a 400 dollar lens.
I took great pics, outstanding pics for only 6mp. Thanks to the quality camera sensor.
even with oodles more mp, and technology, is out safe to say the t2i takes better pics being an entry level and or has more options than a 6yo pro dslr?
I can buy the Cannon EOS 500D right now, but does anyone think I should save an extra 0 and go with the 550D? I really want 720p at 60 FPS and 1080P at 30 FPS just because it seems like it would be a lot smoother than 1080p at 20 FPS. It would be my first DSLR, and I know I should be getting an entry level one such as the Cannon XS (or something similar), but I’ve been wanting one of these DSLRs for as long as I remember, and one that can capture some pretty nice video. I’m not buying the camera JUST for video. If that was the case, I would have gone with a camcorder.
A friend said I should stick with the 500D unless I was real serious with the video, i.e making money from it. He also said that 15 MP to 18 MP wouldn’t make all the difference that I would think it would. However, would I regret buying the 500D rather than the 550D because of it’s other features such as, Manual Exposure control, +/-5 stops for Exposure Comp, much more ISO range, Movie crop function 7x magnification, External mic jack, etc?
