Nikon vs. Canon for entry-level DSLR cameras?

This is my first time purchasing a DSLR. I have a somewhat low budget. I have been browsing the canon line for a few weeks, researching. Today I decided on the Canon EOS Rebel T1i as my final choice. I had thought Canon was the best choice for me as far as entry-level DSLRs go, because I had read somewhere that Canons have the most beginner-friendly interface. I had also heard that additional Nikon lenses, flashes, etc. are more expensive and are not always universal to their body models. But I have seen many comparisons of Nikons vs. Canons, and realized that I should probably look into Nikons at least a little before making my purchase. What I really don’t want is to buy a camera and then become too frustrated or confused with its controls to use it to its full potential. This camera is going to be for casual use, nothing fancy. Just to take my pictures and have them look nice, maybe some creative photography, make good quality YouTube videos. So, to anyone with experience in the SLR market: Are Canons easier to use or figure out than Nikons? And to someone with a lower budget, would Canon be a better choice as far as further upgrade costs go? And if I were to look into Nikons, what would be some cameras equivalent to the T1i in the same price range? I am so new to this and would really appreciate the help!
I guess I could also consider throwing Sony into the mix… I hadn’t really looked into that one, but how does it compare with the other two as far as the points I already mentioned?

What kind of DSLR camera should I get?

I am going into a entry level college photography class and I need to get a camera. I am a college student so budget is a main issue. Also, thoughts on getting a refurbished camera would be very appreciated. These are the cameras that I have been looking at:

Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens

Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm IS II Lens and EOS HD Movie Mode

Any information will be helpful, Thanks!

I have Canon Powershot SD800 IS, ready to upgrade to entry level DSLR or compact point and shoot digital camera which gets close to DSLR (e.g. Powershot S95).

Please recommend one or point me to websites which can help me decide one.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 or Canon Powershot S95, what else…

DSLR : Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS Rebel T2i, what else…

Which first DSLR to get?

I’m looking to get my 1st DSLR. I’ve been researching it for so long that I’ve almost confused myself more because obviously every camera has some negative reviews. I really want the Canon 5D or 7D, but I think that is a little too much for me to spend right now. So I’ve narrowed it down to these three cameras…

Nikon D3100
Nikon D90
Canon EOS Rebel T2i

What do you all think? Pro’s/Con’s? Or other recommendations?

I am leaning towards the D90 because it seems to have more functions & isn’t an "entry-level" camera. I am also planning to start out by getting the camera with just the lens kit it comes with on Amazon, so keep that in mind when you are recommending.

Nikon D3000 vs. Canon EOS Rebel XS?

I’m looking at getting an entry level DSLR. The Nikon D3000 and the Canon EOS Rebel XS are available at identical price points. Both cameras have a lot in common, but Nikon’s 11-point AF, larger screen, Active-D lighting, and slightly longer battery life (550 shots per charge vs. 450 for Canon) have me leaning that way.

I suppose the lack of Live View on the monitor are a downside for the Nikon, but I can’t imagine not preferring to use the viewfinder with an SLR anyway.

Anyone have an opinion that can talk me out of the Nikon and into the Rebel?

Which dSLR should I get?

I’m looking to get a dSLR this Christmas with gift money and such, and I had narrowed it down to three. Then the sales came, and a bunch of much higher end ones dropped way down in price. Please don’t just blatantly go with where your loyalties lie, do some research and give an expert opinion. Here’s my final (not so short) list:

Pentax K-x w/ 18-55 @ 0 from Amazon
Sony Nex-3 w/ 18-55 @ 0 from Best Buy or Ritz Camera
Nikon D3000 w/ 18-55 @ 0 from Best Buy or Ritz
Canon EOS Rebel XSi w/ 18-55 @ 0 from Amazon
Sony A290 w/ 18-55 @ 0 from Ritz
Sony A390 w/ 18-55 AND 55-200 @ 0 (best deal) from Sony

I put the prices and store in case anyone else is shopping for a dSLR too, as these are the best entry level deals I could find.
@? I know the specs for all the cameras I listed. What I want to know is which one performs the best in the real world. Spec sheets only go so far.
After reading reviews, I’m counting out the D3000 because of high noise in the high ISO ranges even at the lowest resolution of any of the cameras. I’m counting out the Canon because of the incredibly expensive lenses to get a good one. The Pentax has no lens selection, so that’s out too. The A290 is out for low image quality. It’s a dead heat between the Nex-3, because of the minuscule size and amazing low light quality even up into ISO 6400, and the A390, because of the optical viewfinder and extra lens. So assume that those are the only two listed.

Is this a good DSLR???

I was planning on getting a DSLR and I want a good camera that takes great pictures but is also a good entry level camera. Also, I wanted a Canon that was not painfully expensive. I really like the Canon EOS Rebel XSi, but first I wanted to hear some opinions before making the final decision. Thanks!

Nikon D60 or Canon XS?

I want to get an entry level digital camera with an image stabilized lens (kit lens). I will upgrade to better lenses later when i am good at it and know exactly what I need. But not now.

I narrow it down to:
1. Nikon D60 10.2MP DSLR With 18-55mm Vibration Reduction Lens Kit
or
2. Canon EOS Rebel XS 10.1MP DSLR With 18-55mm IS Lens Kit

Both of the kit lenses have image stabilizers.

FIRST QUESTION: Which camera do you recommend?

I know kit lenses are lame. But can a kit lens with image stabilizer produce a decent shot? I played with my friends Canon XS with 18-55mm Lens, NO image stabilizer. Most shots came out blurry. It’s very frustrating. I don’t want to use a tripod, it’s not modeling shot or studio shot. It’s more for events or journalism. There is no time to set up tripod.

SECOND QUESTION: Can a kit lens with image stabilizer produce better results?

I’m doing my research and this is just another source. I’d like to pay no more than 00, and that’s really stretching my budget. This purchase is not happening anytime soon. This is my first DSLR and I’m going to start slow and buy the camera first then start with accessories, like lenses and filters, etc. I think I want to go with an entry level model, just because of the price and so I can get used to it and such. Because this is my first DSLR, I’m not sure if I want auto modes such as landscape or portrait, etc. They’re helpful but I don’t want to be relying on them as I delve deeper into photography. I think I’ll be using the camera for travel (mostly landscapes and macro, and a fairly portable model would be nice), and portraits (mostly candid shots of children, so I want a good range of shutter speeds). I’d like at least a 2.0 inch LCD screen and a built-in flash because. I don’t have the money or the expertise yet for a separate flash. So, I hope I’m not being too picky here? Just give me your opinion. I’m looking at Nikon or Canon, which feels like a never ending battle. Which do you feel is better overall? Why? I know this is a lot, so thank you so much to anyone that helps!
If I buy the Canon EOS Rebel T2i with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens for around 0, which lens(es) do you think I should start off with? I’d like to spend around 0 on my first lens.
Also, if I buy the Canon Rebel T2i and it comes with the lens (not "body only"), can I still buy other lenses and change them or do I need to start with just the body in order to be able to change the lens?
To the rude Hondo person: I know you can buy just the body and separate lenses. I was confirming that if I buy my DSLR with the lens kit, I will still be able to change the lens to whichever I choose. I was already fairly positive of this but wanted to be absolutely sure before "wasting several hundred dollars." Thanks for your concern and advice though. /sarcasm
Also, I do want to buy a second lens with the lens kit because I keep reading that the ones in the kits aren’t usually of high quality. Any opinions on that? Pretty sure I’ll go with the Rebel 2ti so it’d be the ES-F 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS. What do you think about that lens? Also, the second one I decided I like is the es 50mm f/1.8- how do we all like that one?
