I am new to photography and will be taking courses on it soon. I have been researching dslr’s mainly the Nikon d5000, Nikon d7000, Canon Rebel T1i and Canon 60d. My goal is to buy a dslr that I can start out with (hopefully make a little money after I learn) as well as have for a while to make a career out of. I would love to have the Nikon d300 or a higher model but can’t afford those at the moment. What is a good camera I can use for portraits, kids, and after experience…weddings to start out with but can give photos a professional look? I’m not at all interested in starting with a film camera so please don’t give advice or recommendations on those. Also can you plz tell me which groups the cameras listed above fall into entry level or semi-pro?
The courses I am taking require a digital slr. The school has an introductory to photography class for film cameras and another introductory to photography for digital slrs.
I’m running into hard times financially. My hours have been cut at work, my mom is disabled. My sister and I both pay the bills, she’s already given her two weeks notice and she’s leaving her job, but doesn’t have another lined up. So who knows how long I’ll be doing it by myself.
I was going to buy a digital SLR before I go to Florida, which is in 3 weeks, but now I’m not sure if I should. SLR’s are the camera’s that professionals use. I was going to buy an entry level one and it costs about 0. Should I save my money until things get better or should I stick with my plan to buy a DSLR before I go on my trip? If I don’t buy one, I still have a camera to take pics with, they just won’t be as beautiful. I think I might feel guilty if I spent the money now. Should I stick to my gut feeling and wait?
The one I was going to buy is called the Nikon D60, and I was also interested in the Canon xsi.
I have some savings, it’s not a lot. I think it’s enough to pay the bills for about 3 months. Getting a used one sounds like a great idea, how do I know if it’s actually a good camera (meaning, not broken or defective)?
I’m not paying for the trip to Florida, my boyfriend is. Well..he’s paying for a majority of the trip, I am just paying for half of the hotel cost. He won’t lend me the money for the DSLR because I already have a point and shoot. He thinks that there is no need for a new camera because I got the one last year.
I always knew I liked photography, I just didn’t know much about it. Now I know that my current camera is limiting. It’s holding me back from discovering my potential. If I have no talent, at least I’d have a camera that takes great photos. I think I will get the D40…eventually. Thanks a lot.
I already have a Canon Rebel Ti 35mm SLR but am starting to shop around for a digital. I like Canon and am used to their format so I don’t really want to switch to Nikon but I might consider it.
I want something that has excellent photo quality (esp good color), has 100% Manual, P, Tv, Av, and Auto functions, is somewhat lighter/ more portable than most super-professional cameras, and not too expensive. I’m planning to buy used or refurbished and probably a couple years old so my target price is around 0. Though I am an amateur now, I would like a camera that I can keep growing with and possibly use professionally… probably something entry level but with a lot of options.
I was playing around with a friend’s Canon Rebel XT but it seems a little dated (4-5 years old, only 8 mp, color is so-so). It would be helpful if someone could explain pros/cons of Canon’s line of DSLRs (D vs Rebel) as well as comparable Nikon models and what features are actually useful and necessary.
Thanks
I am looking for a digital SLR, not a point and shoot.
I’ve been looking around at my first (D) SLR camera. I find a bunch of cleaned up and restored older SLR cameras with a few nice lenses for a couple hundred bucks, but the entry level DSLR’s start at about 0 on top of the cost of an SLR…plus the digital SLR’s have a small zoom range (For the lens that comes with it). I guess my real question is, is it worth it to pay a couple hundred more for a new digital and an extra lens to go with it…or go with an older SLR with some great lenses?
I am looking for a entry level DSLR camera that would take good shots. I coach hockey and football and would like to get action shots of the kids. I would prefer to spend around 700 for the camera, also i notice most come with the standard 55mm lens. What would be a better lens to bring me closer to the action? Thank you

I was looking at the Nikon D5000 DX-Format Digital SLR Outfit w/ 18-55mm and 55-200mm VR Zoom Lenses? would that work for my needs?
I am trying to figure out the right camera for my wife and me. My parents are starting to ask what I want for my birthday and Christmas and I was trying to put together a wish list. I thought I would put a digital SLR on the wish list. Here is what I am looking for:
A dSLR that will take care of me while I am a beginner on up to if I ever start wanting to get serious about taking pictures.
A camera that isn’t going to bust the bank account.
Camera that professionals would suggest as the "better" entry level to mid level camera.
I also want to figure out the right lens to get. I know that there are a lot of lenses that come with cameras that once you get another "good" lens, you will never want to use again because the other "better" lens takes so much better pictures. I don’t want to necessarily get a packaged lens unless it is something that I will love to use when compared to other lenses.
So I am up for your suggestions. Here is what I have looked at so far: Nikon D50 D70 and D80s, Canon Digital Rebel XT, Rebel XS, Rebel XTi, and Rebel XSi. I have also looked at the Pentax K200D but am not sure of the company.
