my cameras and my work

A “slide show” with the digital cameras I owned in time and some of my best shots Canon a530 – great as a start-up camera to explore your creativity (Manual Mode) Fujifilm 6500fd – one of the all-time best bridge camera with a huge sensor (1/1,7″) and very decent lens range Nikon D40 – entry level DSLR, perfect for beginners, had it with 18-55, 55-200 and 50 1.8 (only worked with manual focus) Canon 350D – still entry level DSLR, + battery friendly lcd, – no AF assist light, bought it for a lens (Tamron 28-75 2.8) Canon IXUS 80 is – a downgrade due to financial reasons. Great pocket cam, nice design and a fantastic in-built timelapse software (I posted one on Youtube) Nilon D3000 – back to DSLR, very decent body, comes with 18-55 VR as a kit lens, love the AF assist light, miss the small LCD from the Canon 350D

An overview of the advantages and disadvantages of an entry level DSLR system versus a high point and shoot camera. Hopefully it will help those who are trying to decide whether or not to get their first DSLR.

Should I buy a Digital SLR now, or should I wait?

I’m running into hard times financially. My hours have been cut at work, my mom is disabled. My sister and I both pay the bills, she’s already given her two weeks notice and she’s leaving her job, but doesn’t have another lined up. So who knows how long I’ll be doing it by myself.

I was going to buy a digital SLR before I go to Florida, which is in 3 weeks, but now I’m not sure if I should. SLR’s are the camera’s that professionals use. I was going to buy an entry level one and it costs about 0. Should I save my money until things get better or should I stick with my plan to buy a DSLR before I go on my trip? If I don’t buy one, I still have a camera to take pics with, they just won’t be as beautiful. I think I might feel guilty if I spent the money now. Should I stick to my gut feeling and wait?
The one I was going to buy is called the Nikon D60, and I was also interested in the Canon xsi.
I have some savings, it’s not a lot. I think it’s enough to pay the bills for about 3 months. Getting a used one sounds like a great idea, how do I know if it’s actually a good camera (meaning, not broken or defective)?
I’m not paying for the trip to Florida, my boyfriend is. Well..he’s paying for a majority of the trip, I am just paying for half of the hotel cost. He won’t lend me the money for the DSLR because I already have a point and shoot. He thinks that there is no need for a new camera because I got the one last year.

I always knew I liked photography, I just didn’t know much about it. Now I know that my current camera is limiting. It’s holding me back from discovering my potential. If I have no talent, at least I’d have a camera that takes great photos. I think I will get the D40…eventually. Thanks a lot.

I am a beginner in photography but I need to know which Nikon DSLR to buy.
The D40 and D60 isn’t available anymore, so I am left with the D3000, 5000, and 90.
The 3000 and 5000 are entry level cameras, but I heard the 3000 sucks a lot, so I’m not sure if I should buy that one.

1. Should I go with the 90, 3000, or 5000?
2. Also I want to achieve bokeh, but will that mean I should buy the 35mm f/1.8 OR 50mm f/1.8 lens, too? Or does the regular lens that is provided already create bokeh?

Here are examples of what I mean when I want bokeh:
a) D3000: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leighalouise/4688601502/
b) D80 (I cant find this camera anywhere, so will the D90 be the same in order to get this kind of picture?): http://www.flickr.com/photos/leighalouise/4368593531/
c) D80: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leighalouise/4501035529/

Thanks!

^^^^^that picture really looks nice, though, and its taken with a 3000! So now I am really unsure about which to get.

is it worth spending more on a DSLR?

ive been looking at buying a digital slr for some time,
is it worth spending more on a higher level camera.i would say im an intermediate photographer

the camera i thought about buying is the nikon D90, is it worth spending the extra money than say an entry level D40 or D60

Is now a good time to purchase a Nikon D3000?

I am an amateur looking to level up from a point-and-shoot camera to my first DSLR. The Nikon D3000 seems like it’s a good deal for an entry-level camera. However, there seems to be rumors of a Nikon D4000, which will be an entry-level DSLR, coming out sometime soon even though it hasn’t even been a year since the release of the D3000. Should I wait to see if the D4000 will be released or is now an okay time to purchase a D3000?

Also, which is better for a beginner–the D3000 or the D5000?
Any other entry-level cameras I should take a look at? I seem to be a bit more attracted to Nikons (don’t know why exactly). Also, what are the necessary accessories I need to purchase along with my DSLR? I plan on getting one with a starter kit.

Thanks! Any other tips/advice/warnings/etc. about the D3000 or other comparable cameras are appreciated.
One more–the D3000 is apparently the replacement for the D40, yes?

Nikon d40 vs d60 vs Canon XS?

So I am looking to purchase a new DSLR. My family owns a Nikon D70, which I have used and learned with, but at this point I want to have my own entry level dslr. The three cameras I am leaning towards are either the d40 or d60 or the new canon model, the XS (1000D). I am a fairly new photographer, and am looking on a new dslr to learn and get some experience with. From what I have looked into, I have been told Canon has an advantage with a larger variety of lenses to purchase. Besides that, it has either been get Nikon or get Canon, because, well, they are fans of the brand. Are there any other factors I should consider? Any other input you guys have would be great. Thanks

Nikon D40 One Minute Preview

Katie was down at the launch of the Nikon D40 entry level D-SLR camera yesterday. Here’s a quick video that should give you an idea of how small it is.

This will be my first dslr. I only have experience with canon point and shoot, and I got bored with that. I know some of you will say start off with a cheap entry level one etc etc, but no. When I buy something I like it to be up there, or I just don’t buy it. I’m sure with a few months I will learn, i’m pretty good at figuring out electronics etc. I don’t plan on doing professional photography, but I would like to have a camera capable of taking amazing pictures even though I might not be able to do it. High fps is also good, I like the 6 on the nikon D300. There is also the Canon EOS 50d which is much cheaper, but I figured I want a better built body and I read nikon d300 has that.

I was thinking nikon D300, BH photo offered me 2100 for a nikon D300 with an 18-200 VR lens from nikon. That still leaves 900 left over.

What do you guys think? Any other suggestions? (no canon rebel suggestions, their plasticy body feels cheap to me)
I read kenrockwell’s site already, the D40 is an entry level camera, kenrockwell likes the D300 better too and it is capable of a lot more.
