I’ve decided it’s finally time I upgraded my regular digital compact to an entry level dslr, after about 4 years of using it – my photography experience isn’t non-existant, though, and I have used DSLRs before so I don’t want to be stuck with a bit of a dead end camera once you get passed the beginners stage of using it.
I’m torn between the canon 350d and olympus e-500. Both cameras look good, but the only thing thats putting me off the e-500 is the high iso having a possible effect on my pictures when shooting in poor lighting…however, the design and large screen is something I prefer to the 350d. Also, I’ve heard that the 350d’s autofocusing is a lot better…I’m really stuck! With all bias-ness aside, can I please have some opinions? Thanks.

I been saving money for the past 18 months for my upcoming graduation day. I’m a culinary arts student and now I’m 3rd year. I’m thinking on what to buy on the money that I’ve save. The two things that’s on my mind are high-end laptop since I’ve been using laptop for the past 5 years and I want to upgrade to a newer laptop since I only got a entry level laptop for common use like browsing the net and simple stuffs (not for gaming) or whether I’ll invest to a professional DSLR body since my hobby is photography and I’ll already invested 00 for my current camera kit and accessories.
I want to upgrade from a fixed-lens Canon G6 to a well-built Canon or Nikon DSLR, and not a budget-level entry-level model.
Don’t want to spend more than about 0 for a camera body — any money past the cost of the body will go toward lenses, flash, filters, etc.
[Not currentlly interested in shooting video, although I suppose the video with the D90 could potentially be considered a bonus.]
Should I get the cheaper 40D, and start investing in Canon’s Lens System [frequently said to be a better-value than Nikon's]?
Or is the D90 worth the extra 0 or so for it’s superior sensor (at least according to dxomark.com)?
Which is the better camera-decision for the money — bearing in mind that the 0 saved by buying the Canon would go toward a prime lens (probably starting with a Canon prime lens in the 35 to 50mm range?
I have Canon Powershot SD800 IS, ready to upgrade to entry level DSLR or compact point and shoot digital camera which gets close to DSLR (e.g. Powershot S95).
Please recommend one or point me to websites which can help me decide one.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 or Canon Powershot S95, what else…
DSLR : Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS Rebel T2i, what else…
This is a review of the Opteka DSLR camera hand strap. This is a great strap for entry level or professional photographers. www.blinkphotogalleries.com
I’ve gotten tired of my standard point and shot, which was nice enough to come with little to none settings. I am thinking of my buying my entry level dslr camera, and right now I am set on the Canon EOS 1000D, or the Rebel XS (I myself am American so I will be getting the Rebel XS). Does anyone have any experience on this camera, or any recommendations regarding my first DSLR? I think I want to stick with either Canon and Nikon. I have read many reviews and this seems to be highly rated as a great entry level dslr.
I was a film camera slr enthusiast- did some semi pro stuff in the past. I was using a 35mm film Nikon FM with nikkor prime and zoom glass. Excellent system for my needs-low light, fast lenses. Unfortunately all stolen some years ago (many $$ worth). We now use digital point and shoots for the family and are fine, but for me, very frustrating – especially lag and other obvious things. I have been researching a dslr, have read about nikon d90’s, 3100 and Canon D550’s, Pentax K-r and K-x. Even looked at second hand Nikon D40 and D200’s (also have looked at some favorable reviews about older Canon’s).
My needs are a camera with no nonsense manual settings with high quality images; that offers automatic modes for my kids (who I want to teach photography) and for my wife to learn to use (she takes great photos with the point and shoot). Not interested in hybrid cameras.
I want to get a f1.4-1.8 55mm prime lens for the camera.
What used cameras would be a good buy (0-0) to build upon? Or should I go for the budget entry level dslrs currently available. I want to build up the system over time. I am unable to spend 00+ at sale point on new technology at the moment. cheers
