Ever get green with envy? I really do, particularly when referring to my dslr camera hardware. Now i’m drooling over a new Canon 100-400mm lens these days. The day after tomorrow, no one knows. However one point is for certain, it will probably be something.
However I seriously should declare the fact that the Canon 100-400mm lens has actually been on my hit list for ages. I’ve got some very nice lenses, though. In fact, I’ve got a Canon 70-200mm f4, which is perhaps my finest lens.
A few of the factors the Canon 100-400mm lens leads the list to be my future buy:
1. The zoom range is just right with regard to my preferences. I shoot a great deal of bird pictures, and currently I have to think of imaginative ways to get closer. The zoom to 400mm will be superior to the 200mm I am shooting with right now. Plus, whenever you put this particular lens on a camera which has a crop sensor, such as a Digital rebel or 7D, you get 1.6x the actual stated focal length (680mm). Which is great.
2. It is deemed an L series lens. Which is Canon’s very best quality lens collection. You will enjoy far better image quality, better construction, together with other people watching and admiring your equipment (see the story down below).
3. Nature Photography requires a lens such as this. If you cannot spend the money for prime lenses at 400 or 500mm, this particular zoom lens is the next most suitable option. I mentioned previously taking pictures of birds, but the majority of natural creatures won’t come up to you and say “cheese.” You undoubtedly need a lens which can reach them. And once you happen to be walking through the wilds of Alaska or maybe walking through your local neighborhood, a telephoto zoom lens with this length is just what you’ll need.
So here’s the tale of my recent exposure to “lens jealousy.”
I’d been driving to work at just the proper moment in the early morning for the sun to be perfect for a certain photo I had been contemplating. It is just a horse farm and stable that is directly on the corner where I turn. There are several beautiful chestnut horses grazing in the pasture upon a sloping hill having a little barn in the front.
It happened to be the precise photo I was envisioning. And So I along side of the road just after turning the corner. I got my Canon digital slr from the carrier and connected my 70-200mm lens to it. I proceeded to cross the street and take up my location beside the fence. I clicked several shots and relocated in order to shoot a few more. I checked the rear monitor to see how the shots were turning out.
All was good except I was a bit too far away from the hillside to get the shots I really wanted. I would have to crop them once I got them on my computer.
That’s when it occurred to me that there was someone else standing nearby, and he was doing exactly the same thing I was. I noticed the familiar color of a Canon telephoto L lens. It was the Canon 100-400, and I began to get that sick feeling in my stomach.. perhaps you know the one I’m speaking of? It’s the one associated with jealousy.
We struck up a conversation, and he mentioned that my presence there had inspired him to stop and take some photos. We spoke for a few minutes, and upon parting, he gave me the name of a website where I could view the images he had shot of the horses.
Of course, I couldn’t wait to see those shots, and when I did, it merely renewed my feelings of intense desire for that lens. Someday very soon, I’m sure that I will be opening a package that contains a Canon 100-400mm lens, perhaps it will be on some special occasion like my birthday or April 5th (the date is insignificant – any day will do). I have been dropping hints that my wife will pick up on, like writing this article.
I’m sure there will be in my possession a Canon 100-400mm lens because I want it really badly. So much so that I have a website devoted to that and other lenses that I either have or want. Check it out at http://www.canoneoslenses.org.
Happy Shooting!
