Recommendations on buying a DSLR?

I am researching different entry level cameras to buy. I finally lost my old trusty AE-1 and am looking for a DSLR to replace it. I am new to digital photography, and am looking for something with easy aperture and time controls, but with a decent amount of options to grow into.
-fps and Weight are not factors
-preferably a sturdy model
-abilities in a wide range of situations
Suggestions?

UNBOXING: Nikon D3100 DSLR [Part 2]

www.digitalhomethoughts.com Want to buy one? http The D3100 an the entry-level DSLR from Nikon, but the list of features and specs will surprise you: the 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor is at the heart of this camera, giving it ISO 100 to 3200 (with a high ISO 12800 option), 3 frames per second continual shooting, 1080p 24fps MPEG/h.264 video with continual auto focus, an 11-point autofocus system with 3D tracking, 420-segment RGB II metering, automatic image sensor cleaning, in-camera retouch options (including trimming of video clips), and a built-in pop-up flash. Here’s my review of the SanDisk Extreme SDHC card: is.gd

I am new to photography and will be taking courses on it soon. I have been researching dslr’s mainly the Nikon d5000, Nikon d7000, Canon Rebel T1i and Canon 60d. My goal is to buy a dslr that I can start out with (hopefully make a little money after I learn) as well as have for a while to make a career out of. I would love to have the Nikon d300 or a higher model but can’t afford those at the moment. What is a good camera I can use for portraits, kids, and after experience…weddings to start out with but can give photos a professional look? I’m not at all interested in starting with a film camera so please don’t give advice or recommendations on those. Also can you plz tell me which groups the cameras listed above fall into entry level or semi-pro?
The courses I am taking require a digital slr. The school has an introductory to photography class for film cameras and another introductory to photography for digital slrs.

Which should I get Canon or Nikon DSLR?

I am an amateur photographer. Should I get the Canon 550D, 50D or 60D and for Nikon D7000, D3100, D5000 or D90? Any advice on this? I am into shooting landscape and sports so which is the ideal camera. As I know these are entry level to semi pro.
I prefer using a SD card over a CF card but both are fine. Is video good in these DSLR if not I can leave it out on my option list.

Entry-level dSLR camera: which do you recommend?

I love photography and currently have a Canon Powershot SX10 IS. I want to upgrade from that point and shoot to a dSLR.

Aside from shooting landscapes, animals, and people, I want to be able to shoot at night (stars, cityscapes, etc.) and I want a camera that will take quality photographs in low light situations without using a flash (high ISO). I also want the camera to include a video mode with a high fps rate (and preferably HD).

I have done a little research, but decided to ask the public to help me choose: Nikon D3000, Nikon D90, Pentax K-x, Pentax K-r (releasing in October), or other? Please give reasoning and thank you in advance for your help!

Budget: 0 on camera body.

Feel free to suggest any lenses, as well!

An unboxing of Nikon’s newest entry level DSLR

Nikon D3100 Hands-on Review

Nikon has released the D3100, which is an update to their entry-level DSLR range (the predecessors being the D3000 and the D5000). One of the big changes to this camera is that it now has 1080p video mode and AF-F, continuous autofocus during movie mode. So, what is the Nikon D3100 like? Is it worthy competition to the Canon 550D?
