Okay, so I wanna get a DSLR and this would be my first purchase of a DSLR, although I do have some experience using DSLRs. I’m on a tight budget and am of course going for an entry level DSLR and aren’t so stupid as to *not* go with Canon or Nikon. Looking at specs and reviews, I see the Rebel XS to be superior over the D40 and D60 and is also much worth the price (I’m looking on bhphotovideo.com). But what I want to know is what will be better in the long run like I understand that what I choose in the beginning will affect what I will stick with in the future, so I want to know what will benefit me better if I choose to upgrade as I get better or find a need for a better camera in the future: Canon or Nikon.

I need one that’s compact, produces great images, and affordable.

iated. canon’s entry level camera is the rebel xti. is there plans of coming out with a new entry level dslr canon camera. thanks? did they unveil a new one at the ces convention?thanks!

I went to a shop and like the built of nikon on my hand- :( :(

Nikon D2xs Nikon D60 camera www.microglobe.co.uk Two and a half years ago Nikon publicized the 6 megapixel Nikon D70, their first reasonable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very well-known camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just 15 months later Nikon revealed the Nikon D70s which was basically the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 15 months on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their ‘enthusiasts’ digital SLR line, the 10.2 megapixel Nikon D80. The Nikon D80 slots nicely between the entry-level Nikon D50 and the semi-professional / professional Nikon D200, clearly based on the D70 design but also different enough to be seen as a completely new model. It features a ten megapixel DX format CCD (the same we presume as used by Sony in the DSLR-A100), the metering sensor from the D50 and numerous other items taken or modified from the D200. Nikon d2hs and D2H are also wonderful cameras.

I dont really have a budget, its just a matter of saving the money to get it but it also means i want it in the near future haha, sorry thats no help. Originally i was going to purchase the a200k but then i thought about lenses and how i would want to buy a fish eye eventually. Are there any fisheye lenses that would fit the a200k? If not, then which would be the better choice: D40 or Xti?

I’m trying to decide between these cameras

Sony a-300/350
nikon d60
canon 1000d/eos rebel xs
olympus e-420/520

Best beginner dSLR's below $1000?

I was looking at the Nikon d3000 which feels like a good investment for a beginner at 9 from Teds (Australia). I’ve read that it doesn’t have live view – is this really important though?? It doesn’t seem like a big deal but I don’t want to get it and then wish it had live view.
Are there any other good entry level dSLR’s that won’t totally break the bank?
Also does anyone have the d3000? Do you like it? Reviews? Thanks!

which is the best entry level DSLR?

lookin for a professional camera
